Design Week
Week 1: Design week (6/25 - 6/28)
Monday:
We focused on brainstorming potential interior designs. The interior designs have to be able to fit 4-6 people. We took measurements of the full scale model, and focused on implementing the open concept so that traveling can be more luxurious, and comfortable. In addition, our team decided we could use foldable seating, or benches so that we could have space to possibly fit two bikes per pod car. We also decided on adding a few additional features. We first prototyped our design by forming a cardboard diorama.
Tuesday:
Each of us drew several sketches of what the pod car could potentially look like, as well as making a digital sketch using SketchUp. We researched the general requirements for space and seating in a bus, so we could model the interior of the pod car accordingly. We made adjustments to the general shape of the car, now being hexagonal to represent a gondola. We also tested the 3D printer to see how parts will be produced so we can anticipate some margin of error in the real printing.
Wednesday:
We completed a CAD design for the chairs that we are planning to install in the cabin, as well as CAD for the outer shell of the cabin.
Thursday:
We further improvised the CAD based on how we are planning to assemble our 3D printed parts, and fitting all components. We planned to separate the model into several parts so that we can 3D print parts without exhausting the printer itself.
